Chain Abstraction Coalition: Our Arbitrum Co-Testnet Is Live on Particle Pioneer!

The Chain Abstraction Coalition has done it again.

This alliance, dedicated to ending the ecosystem’s fragmentation and featuring key industry names such as Avalanche, Berachain, Botanix, BNB Chain, Linea, and Polygon, continues to accelerate its mission to create a truly borderless ecosystem.

And today, we’re taking another step forward by introducing our Arbitrum Co-Testnet. This guide will go over how to make the most out of this unique opportunity, the unique chain abstraction features you can experience within it, and much more.

First of all: what are Co-Testnets?

The first step in the Chain Abstraction Coalition’s unification roadmap is introducing Co-Testnets: special environments showcasing the exciting potential of chain abstraction, made possible by Particle Network's Universal Accounts. Within Co-Testnets, you can experience key chain abstraction features, like having a unified balance for all chains, paying gas with any token, and more.

Following the success of the first and second Co-Testnet waves that took place in July, it’s now time for Arbitrum to be integrated into the Particle Pioneer platform. 

Next, we will explore how this third Co-Testnet works, what incentives Particle Network has allocated towards it, and how this can benefit you— regardless of whether you are an Arbitrum user or not.

Introducing our Arbitrum Co-Testnet

Before uncovering the details and unique mechanisms this Co-Testnet Wave offers, let's briefly introduce Arbitrum, the sole protagonist of this third Co-Testnet Wave.

Originally launched by the Offchain Labs team in August 2021, Arbitrum makes it possible for projects to leverage Ethereum's security to build next-gen apps by offering a powerful suite of battle-tested Layer 2 scaling solutions. Arbitrum was created with Ethereum compatibility as a top priority. In Arbitrum One (Rollup chain) and Arbitrum Nova (AnyTrust chain), you can run unmodified EVM contracts and unmodified Ethereum transactions.

Arbitrum's market-leading Optimistic rollup technology uses fraud proofs to leverage Ethereum's security and reduce transaction fees by an order of magnitude, making scalability possible. For use cases that call for ultra-low transaction fees, Arbitrum offers AnyTrust chains—a high-security solution for gaming and social projects.

Understanding this Co-Testnet

Particle Pioneer and Universal Accounts

Co-Testnets are hosted within Particle Pioneer, our Testnet platform where users can explore a borderless Web3 through chain abstraction (ChA).

New chains and ChA functionalities are constantly arriving in Particle Pioneer, enabled by Particle Network’s three core ChA technologies: Universal Accounts, Universal Gas, and Universal Liquidity. 

You can create an Universal Account via a wallet or social login. This allows you to interact with all chains as if they were a single network, with a single balance and address across them and seamless interconnectivity.

This Co-Testnet wave allows you to experience the borderless Web3 through two core tasks: purchasing NFTs across chains and sending cross-chain transactions, both leveraging the Arbitrum network. We'll show you how to carry out these tasks within Particle Pioneer in the following sections.

Interacting with Particle Pioneer and Universal Accounts

To start using Particle Pioneer:

1. Go to pioneer.particle.network.
2. Go through a basic registration process and connect a wallet or social account to create a Universal Account. From now on, your connected wallet or social account will be your login into your Universal Account. Importantly, new users who connect wallets from select providers may be eligible for the Bonus Wallet (up to 150%) if they fulfill all the prerequisites. Depending on your connected wallet’s existing activity, you may also be entitled to receive a special OG reward!
3. Click on “Points” to land at the Points Dashboard.
4. Your Universal Account will be accessible through the bottom right corner button. It will display all your Testnet tokens within a single interface, as shown below.

5. Within your Universal Account, you will have a single address for every integrated chain. You can top off your account with assets from any public Faucet (we’ve included links to them in the interface in case you need them!)
6. That’s it! You’re now ready to start exploring the Particle Pioneer platform.

Purchasing NFTs across chains

The latest addition to our Co-Testnet is the ability to purchase NFTs on participating chains using assets from any other chain. This showcases the borderless experience enabled by chain abstraction. To start using this functionality:

1. Scroll to Task #4 and click “Purchase NFT”
2. Select the Testnet chain on which you’d like to purchase an NFT.
3. Click “Purchase”.
4. Select one or more of your Testnet tokens from any Testnet to pay for the NFT. 
5. That’s it! That’s how easy it is to leverage chain abstraction and how easy Web3 is about to become thanks to the ability to perform any transaction on any chain through Universal Accounts. This is also demonstrated in the video below:

Sending cross-chain transactions

You can also earn additional points by sending cross-chain transactions with your Universal Account. With the magic of chain abstraction, this is as simple as sending a regular transaction!

1. Click on the “Send” button to initiate a cross-chain transaction. Importantly, to receive the Co-Testnet bonus, you will need to send USDG. If you don't yet have USG, Particle's "Universal Gas" token, you can obtain it by depositing any Testnet asset.
2. Select the asset you wish to send by clicking on the menu at the top. You can select the destination chain (use Base Sepolia, Linea Sepolia, Taiko Testnet, Kakarot Sepolia, or Zircuit Testnet for our Co-Testnet bonus!) as well.
3. Enter the address you want to send to in the “To” field. Insert the amount that will be sent in the “Amount” field.
4. Click “Next” and inspect the details of the transaction. If you’re satisfied, click “Send” and confirm it.

That’s it. You just sent a cross-chain transaction!

For extra points, you can also scroll down the Points dashboard and follow Base, Linea, Taiko, Kakarot and Zircuit on Twitter (X), and go to the Particle Pioneer Booster page to mint a commemorative Booster NFT.
